Bedroom Furniture: A Few Things I have Learned

I recently took an honest assessment of my bedroom and realized that none of my bedroom furniture matched. There were items I’ve had since childhood, others from college, and some I’ve picked up from garage sales. I’ve been thinking of investing in some new furniture, and I realized the place that needed the most help was my bedroom.

Bedroom Furniture Preparation

The first things I did to prepare for all new bedroom furniture was clean out my room entirely. I made two piles: Pile A goes to Goodwill, Pile B stays here. Most of my bedroom furniture ended up in Pile A. There were, however, two small pieces that I wanted to hang on for sentimental value. This was part of my assessment: knowing some items would stay, I can better plan for what I need and what will stylistically match the items that are staying.

Your Bedroom Furniture Style

In my case, I decided to keep this small antique nightstand, and I also decided to hang onto this multicolored chest. The chest doesn’t exactly constitute bedroom furniture, except that it’s in my bedroom. It basically just holds a record player and adds to the look of my room. This takes me to another point: I like the overall style of my room. I just realized that I needed some new bedroom furniture. I knew that whatever I purchased would have to match the stylistic tone I have in my room. Vintage is the best way to describe it.

My room has always been characterized by a kind of mismatched look. The problem wasn’t that everything looked bad together; it was more that individual pieces didn’t look quite right together. I spent some time perusing various bedroom furniture sets and realized that I’m not interested in having a complete collection. I’d rather create my own from various sets. This is a choice I made stylistically. Some people prefer matching furniture sets. I’m more into customizing my room exactly as I see fit; this means grabbing different pieces from different places.

Bedroom Furniture Color Schemes

One of the things often overlooked when people buy furniture is color schemes. My walls are off-white. The room doesn’t get too much natural light. I decided to go for bedroom furniture in medium shades that would create contrast with the walls and natural lighting of the room.

Bedroom Furniture Material

The other thing that I always take into consideration when buying furniture is materials. If I’m going to invest money into purchasing something, I want to make sure I’m purchasing quality materials. I wanted to buy all hardwood solids, knowing that’s the finest, most durable wood in the market. I was delighted to learn that not only could I fine bedroom furniture in hardwood solids, but there were many eco-friendly options that used sustainably harvested wood.

All in all, my experience shopping for bedroom furniture was a good one. I took my time assessing what I had, what I needed, and what I really wanted. My bedroom has a fresh new look, and I’m very pleased. If you spend some time thinking through before you buy, your experience can be as rewarding as mine was.
