Platform Beds Are Great if you are Obsessed with Japan
A platform bed is really the only choice if you are a big fan of anime and Japan in general. Many people enjoy the culture and media produced in Japan, and like to extend as much of the country as they can into their homes. Electronics and manga only go so far, though. After a while, the thousands spent on Dragonball figurines must be complemented with additional thousands spent on furniture. One option is to go the obsessive route and purchase furniture from Japan. This will inevitably result in very high prices, long shipping times, and the possibility that the final product will not correspond visually to anything else in your home. The alternative is to purchase a platform bed within your own zip code.
A platform bed is typically low to the ground, features simple design, and does not require a box spring. The mattress rests directly on slats in the frame itself. The proximity of the bed to the floor, combined with its simple design, give the platform bed an appearance very similar to a futon. Thus, the Japanophile can enjoy the benefits of a futon while maintaining a traditional bed design. A platform bed is also easy to move in comparison to other beds. This will make it very simple to move the bed away from the wall to hang up seven or eight Gundam posters.
The absence of a box spring with a platform bed is very useful in eliminating noise. As box springs wear out, they begin producing loud creaking noises. A platform bed does not suffer from such a problem, and will not disturb others when its user shifts around at 3 a.m. while watching Ghost in the Shell. Finally, the bed is comfortable. This will make it easier to fall asleep quickly and dream of being a samurai.
