Your living room is huge;
your dining room has enough room for a small gathering of your entire
neighborhood. But your bedroom…well, obviously people who design homes don’t
realize how important the bedroom is. It’s your escape to a land of sleeping
and gentle snoozing. Maybe it has a TV inside, and surely it has a lamp for
some nighttime reading. It’s your sanctuary, but it sure is small. Here are
some ideas on how to convert your bedroom space into a functional and fanciful one.
Now, if you happen to sleep
peacefully in a large master suite, congratulations. You probably have enough
space for a sitting area, in which there are so many things you can do with
that area. Think about investing in a super comfy couch or loveseat for that
corner with a couple of end tables, making it a great lounging area or maybe
where you can watch TV besides in your bed. Another option is to get a
swiveling base for your TV so you can watch both in the sitting area and on
your bed, in case you seriously need to find out what’s going on with Grey’s
Anatomy. Seriously. Consider a daybed or futon as well—futons are extremely
versatile, and daybeds are a nice touch if you have an old-fashioned feel in
your décor. You can also display an ornate dresser or armoire here, especially
if you tend to run out of closet space. Either way, whatever furniture you put
in that area of the bedroom should try to receive as much natural light as
possible, especially if you have a large window or patio.
Let’s say your bedroom isn’t
as, well, roomy. You can still maximize your space so that your room doesn’t
seem so cramped. Again, futons are a good idea if you’re lacking bed space, as
well as twin and full sized beds. While king and queen sized beds are much
roomier, you may have to downsize. Draw out plans to see what bedroom furniture
would fit where. If you can squeeze it in, place the bed in the middle so two
nightstands are on either side of the bed. Skip the armoire, take your dresser
and put it inside the closet to create a complete clothing space. Use the space
where the dresser was for a small chair or skinny bookcase. As long as you’re
creative, you can find plenty of ways to fit your furniture into a small space.
Despite the size of your
bedroom, there are plenty of options for decorating and rearranging the
furniture. With a master bedroom, you have enough space to play around with
furniture and add new pieces or display favorite ones. In a smaller bedroom,
the furniture will be a tighter fit, but with some creative adapting you can
certainly find room for it all.
